Dogs in Training
Rehabilitation for dogs;
I thought it was about time I wrote about some of the lovely dogs that I’m working with:
Separation anxiety:
Glen is a very pretty light brindle colour rescue whippet cross, his owner Bobbi, and Robert and their son called me because their dog Glen was displaying very severe signs of separation anxiety. They couldn’t even leave the room, let alone the house. During our conversation, Bobbi explained that I was their last and only hope, and they would whatever it took to help him. They had received a couple of complaints, because of the barking. Glen would get so worked up that when they returned home he would be significantly stressed as he was painting heavily and very flustered. They even changed their working hours so that someone was with, or they would take him everywhere they went.
Whilst we carried out some training in their home I noticed that Glen was very insecure and would pace, or stand but didn’t tend to lie down. He was unable to relax. All his focus was on the owners if they moved he was right next to them, waiting to see if they were going to leave him. I explained and showed the family what we needed to do. Working with Glen was a pleasure as he was well behaved. The family have put so much hard work into training him. Finally Glen gave in and feel-asleep.
I felt that we had made a good start to changing his anxieties.
